Rev. Dr. John M. Backes
Senior Pastor
Pastor John has served Bethel A/G for the last 5 ½ years and has been in full-time ministry for over 25 years. He has received several educational degrees, the latest being a Doctor of Ministry in 1998. He is passionate about the presence of God, worship and leading others to experience the power of God. He also has a passion for seeing the church mature in Christ so that the local community will be affected in a positive manner for the kingdom of God. Pastor John also has a strong heart for missions.
Pastor John and Sharon met at Valley Forge Christian College and have been married for 34 years. They have four children Melissa, Rebecca (son-in-law Alex), Andrew, Benjamin and three beautiful grandchildren (Evan, Aaron, Ashlyn).
Born in Wisconsin, he enjoys following the Packers and other Wisconsin teams. He is an avid golfer and also enjoys fixing things around the house.

Fourteen-year-old Isaac Ward of First AG, Binghamton, New York, is the Junior Winner of the first National Bible Bee and a $50,000 scholarship. Ward says AG's Teen Bible Quiz helped him with contest, through memorization.

Weekly attendance and church condition declines at Trinity Life Center of Sacramento, California by the end of 2007. After Glen D. Cole accepts senior pastor position in 2008, the church is now thriving with an average attendance of 800 and has been remodeled without borrowing.
